WELCOME LETTER

My name is Ms. Keana Crayton, and I am entering my 17th year in the Macon County School System. I am very excited to have the opportunity to spend this year with you and your child! It is my goal to provide an educational experience that will have a positive impact on your child’s life.  We will continue using the platform Google Classroom, which will be paired with i-Ready to aid me in presenting more effective and engaging lessons. While we may experience a learning curve with Google Classroom, I will do all I can to offer my assistance.

An open line of communication between home and school is very important. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns. This year we will be able to communicate in various ways. ClassDojo, Google Meet, and Google Voice.  Please be mindful of the content as all communications will be monitored. My Google Voice number is 706-810-6864. This line can receive incoming calls and texts.  Lastly, my email is craytonk@maconk12.org.   Please allow me 24 hrs. to respond to you, unless an emergency arises.

Second Grade is an exciting time as children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. It is also a year of important transitions, and one in which learning and performing new skills is accelerated.  Therefore, your child’s success lies in the hands of three important people: the teacher, the parent(s), and the child. The following are some suggestions that will support your child’s learning:

  1. Encourage good behavior! Discipline is necessary online, in class, the halls, restrooms, cafeteria, library, music, gym, and counseling class.
  2. Attendance is important! Please make sure your child is awake, present, and ready for the lessons.
  3. Be Prepared! Make sure your child has his/her supplies daily. Charge your iPads, laptops, and/or tablets nightly. Headphones can be used to limit distractions.
  4. Instruction time matters! Instruction time is vital for the students and me. I ask that parents not call during the designated times of instruction. If a student misses a live class, I will post the link on my webpage, Google Classroom page, or send to that student’s email.
  5. Dress code! Please ensure your child has on proper clothing daily. While on live lessons students are asked to be fully clothed. That means NO PAJAMAS, NO TANKTOPS, NO UNDERSHIRTS, and NO GRAPHIC SHIRTS!

Although this year will be full of important changes, it is very essential to keep in mind each child develops and progresses at his/her own rate. Therefore, encouragement and continuing to build a secure educational foundation for growth is a priority.  Here are some ways you can help:

  1. Celebrate your child’s success, no matter how small.  This keeps your child enthusiastic about learning.
  2. Read to and with your child everyday, if possible.  The more positive language your child hears, the easier it will be for him/her with reading and writing in the classroom.
  3. Come by and check on your child periodically. Children love to show their parents off to the world.
  4. Ask us if you have a question about a skill. Believe it or not, teachers practice keeping our skill level up. I have no problem with showing you how we solve a problem or analyze a passage.

It is my hope that this letter gives you an understanding of my expectations of your child as a student and you as my partner in education for this school year. There will be future communication from me throughout the year, so please ClassDojo, Google Classroom, and/or your emails daily. I am sure this is going to be a great year!

Your partner in education!
